Adored this book! I read a lot of this genre and not many affect me emotionally anymore, but not the case with this one. I teared up at the end, and in between the author made me chuckle a few times. I believe this is my 1st book by this author and it won't be my last. Loved Alec and Mairi. Always liked a tortured hero for one thing. Mairi's got fire and gumption. There's so many books where the hero will say how brave the heroine is and she's done nothing but perhaps not whine. I won't comment and end up with a spoiler - I don't think reviews need to have spoilers, as if you're reading it you're trying to decide to read it or not. The development of relationships has a natural progression (well for a romance book), but not just between her and Alec, but also between her and the children. The peripheral characters are interesting too from the bad guys to Alec and Mairi's family and friends.

I can’t count the number of times Mairi and Alec made me grin and Heather McCollum’s writing just plain charmed the heck out of me.Mairi is a strong, resourceful woman who isn’t afraid to speak her mind. When taken captive she doesn’t faint with fright, but defies Alec and makes herself comfortable in his dungeon. I loved Mairi’s cleverness, attitude, and warm heart. Kisimul Castle is a dark and depressing place when she arrives and she – along with Alec’s adorable children – turn it into a home. As for Alec, though he’s determined to avenge his wife’s murder, he’s no monster. He’s a kind and loving father and a leader who wants to do what’s best for his people. I adored both Alec and Mairi, which made it easy to become invested in their love story. Their romance is lively and fun; every part of it crackles with energy. The sparks that fly from their first meeting keep flying all through the book which made this a wonderfully satisfying romance.Some books just make you happy when you read them, and that’s definitely the case for me with The Wolf of Kisimul Castle. This is the first book of Ms. McCollum’s that I’ve read and her style reminded me of vintage Julie Garwood. I couldn’t have been more entertained by Mairi and Alec’s story and I cannot wait to go back and read Ms. McCollum’s first two Highland Isles tales!
Sometimes you buy a book and you don't have high expectations for it... Then that book proceeds to blast all your expectations away! That is what happened with this book. I bought it on a whim, figuring it would provide an few hours idle amusement. I ended up loving it! It was sweet, a little sexy, and theres action where it counts. I love it when you have a leading man who's not afraid to swing his sword first and ask questions later. I even found myself getting attached to the leading Lady. As anyone who has read other reviews I have done knows, I am hard on female leads. If you like stories with a touch of Beauty and the Beast, you will love this book!
Easily the best of the 3 books--I love how our leading man is also shown as kind, vulnerable and honorable. Mairi, our leading lady, is strong, stubborn and as much a highland hero as any man in the series. I feel like this book is truly a love story of equals. I very nice fresh take from the typical period romance. I read this book through very quickly and enjoyed every page! I would like to see more in this series! Grace needs a story!
I gave all the books in this series a good rating because it grabs you from the start and is so full of romance and action that it is hard to put down!Exciting from beginning to end. Mairi is wonderful from her actions and attitude at being taken on her wedding to taking "the Wolf'sKids under her wings to winning the loyalty and love of the people!! The man called the WOLF, Alec McKain is strong In mind and body, with a kindness to animals and people alike! He is easy to love and I found myself longing for them to fall in love!!!Heather McCullum is a wonderful author!! I hope she writes more In this series as I would love for Grace to have a love story and also Bessy!!
A must read book for historical romance lovers! Revenge does not always go as planned even for the wolf. Mairi is not a shy maiden who will do as he bids. She is a strong character who stands her ground but will the wolf wear her down? What a ride to find out how their HEA will go. It held my attention from the beginning and threw many surprises at you. It made me laugh and cry- and had my thinking about it all day today! It has strong characters, deceit, passion, humor, kilts, and dogs- what's not to love?
Great story. Suspense, mystery, love, devotion, thrills. What I loved the best was the levity. The author does the most fantastic job of group verbal and nonverbal dynamics that I have ever read. If you thought Cullen's Christmas was good just wait till you read this book. I had tears in my eyes (and I dislike comedy). She is fantastic in her ability to encompass so many emotions in her books. A professional editing would enhance the book greatly, but doesn't detract from the writing as is. Loved it..
The heroine is brave, passionate, and stubborn; just the way I like. Our hero is a poor jailer and our heroine is a poor prisoner. LOL. You'll have to read the book to figure that one out. Of course, our hero is kind, braver, and patient.The dogs and children were precious and the story would not have been as interesting without. Really this book has an ensemble cast; each one adding a dimension to the story. I don't think I have read a book with so many players.I loved it.
